Photographer, Max Furchgott was born in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1917. Originally interested in painting and drawing, Furchgott took art classes at the University of South Carolina and later moved to New York City. While in New York, he earned a living making water color portraits from photographs. Furchgott returned to Charleston during the late 1930s and continued to pursue the portraiture trade.
